正面描述 Central field features the crowned Portuguese royal arms, displaying the quartered escutcheon with castles and quinas (five-shield arrangement), surmounted by a royal crown rendered in low relief in the cast copper fabric. The shield is flanked by decorative foliate or scrollwork elements on either side. A circular beaded or rope border frames the design. The mint initials D and O appear divided at left and right of the central device, serving as the Diu mint mark attribution.

附加信息

The bazaruco was a unit so debased and chaotic in Portuguese India that authorities repeatedly attempted to rationalize its multiples — largely without success. José I's copper issues from the Goa mint reflect that instability directly: the 1765 authorization came partly in response to chronic shortages of small change along the Konkan coast, where locally-minted and counterfeit pieces had been filling the vacuum for decades. The Dio mint attribution for this type distinguishes it from the Goa-struck variants cataloged separately under Gomes, a distinction that took considerable archival work to establish reliably.
