| Obverse description | Central field features a plain circular depression or boss, above which is placed a large royal crown in high relief, rendered with fine beaded and arched detailing. Flanking the central boss on either side are two crossed ribbon or scroll motifs, adding a decorative heraldic character to the design. The lower portion of the field bears a curved ribbon banner inscribed with the legend ROMANIA in bold raised Latin letters. The entire design is enclosed within a raised beaded border running along the coin's rim. |

Pattern strikes for Romanian coinage in the early twentieth century were produced in limited numbers by the Monetăria Statului specifically for submission to royal or ministerial approval, and the 1905 brass trial for the 20 Bani denomination was never adopted for circulation — Romania continued striking the 20 Bani in copper-nickel through this period. The choice of brass here likely reflects experimentation with cheaper alloy options, a concern that preoccupied European minting authorities as nickel prices fluctuated before the First World War.
