| Aanvullende informatie |
Romania's postwar nickel coinage was produced under Soviet-aligned monetary reforms that restructured the leu system following the 1947 abolition of the monarchy and declaration of the People's Republic. The 1958 issues were struck at a moment when Romania still maintained close economic dependence on Moscow, before Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej began quietly distancing the country from Soviet directives in the early 1960s.
Stamb#229-1.1 distinguishes the first die variety in what became a short-lived type, superseded by the 1963 monetary reform that redenominated the leu at a ratio of 100 old to 1 new.
