Obverse description The central field displays the full national coat of arms of Panama, featuring a quartered shield surmounted by a harpy eagle with wings displayed, the shield flanked by crossed swords and rifles, with two cornucopiae at the base. A scroll across the upper portion of the shield bears the national motto PRO MUNDI BENEFICIO in relief. Nine stars arc above the eagle, representing Panama's provinces at the time of independence.
