Obverse description The obverse features the national coat of arms of Panama rendered in selective gold plating at center, depicting a quartered shield surmounted by a harpy eagle with wings displayed, flanked by crossed cannon and rifles with pennants, and encircled by a ring of nine stars. The central device occupies a polished mirror field within a raised inner border. The legend REPÚBLICA DE PANAMÁ arcs along the upper periphery and VEINTE BALBOAS along the lower periphery, both inscribed in bold raised lettering against a deeply toned outer ring. The overall design employs a two-tone proof finish contrasting gold-plated relief elements against a dark field.

Reverse description The reverse presents a detailed gold-plated architectural rendering of the Iglesia San José (Church of San José) in Panama City, depicted in three-quarter perspective with its characteristic single bell tower surmounted by a cross, arched entrance portal, and adjoining nave, all set within a polished central field. The legend IGLESIA SAN JOSÉ arcs prominently along the upper border in bold raised lettering against a dark toned ring. Below the central design, the inscription JMJ PANAMÁ flanked by the World Youth Day logo devices appears in the lower field, with the date 2019 inscribed at the bottom of the border. The coin commemorates the 2019 World Youth Day (Jornada Mundial de la Juventud) held in Panama City.
