Dhofar was never an independent monetary authority in any conventional sense — it was a tribal region under the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman, and these coins were issued under Said bin Taimur specifically for local Dhofari circulation, separate from the wider Omani monetary system. The political logic was administrative control as much as economic convenience.
Said bin Taimur's coinage for Dhofar is notably sparse across all denominations. The 1940 date places this issue squarely in wartime, though Dhofar itself remained remote from the conflict.
