Obverse description Draped bust of King Rama V (Chulalongkorn) facing half-right, depicted in Western-style military attire with a high collar and decorations, rendered in high relief. The effigy shows the king with a distinguished moustache and naturalistically styled hair. A curved Thai-script legend arcs along the left rim and continues along the right rim, bearing the king's full royal title in Thai characters. The field surrounding the portrait is smooth and unadorned, directing full attention to the finely detailed royal effigy.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of the Thai Customs Department, founded in 1874 under Rama V as part of a sweeping modernization of Siamese fiscal administration — a direct response to pressure from European trading powers demanding transparent tariff structures. The commemorative program under Rama X has continued the long-standing practice of issuing circulating-weight collector pieces through the Royal Thai Mint at the Kasetsart University facility in Bangkok.
