Thailand's wartime alliance with Japan made the National Printing Bureau in Tokyo the practical choice for producing this series — a straightforward consequence of the December 1941 agreement that gave Japanese forces passage through Thai territory. The six signature and serial number varieties documented under Pick 49 reflect years of incremental modification rather than planned redesign, as the Thai government adjusted control numbering systems across successive printings throughout the war period.
The Thai-numeral lower-left serial on the earliest Type I issues is the clearest diagnostic for placing a note in the first printing run.
