Issued to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Prince Damrong Rajanubhab, widely regarded as the founder of Thailand's modern administrative system. As interior minister under Rama V, he dismantled the old feudal provincial structure and replaced it with a centralized monthon system — a reorganization that effectively extended Bangkok's administrative reach to the furthest northern and southern territories for the first time.
He later founded the National Library and the National Museum, and died in exile in Penang after falling out of favor with the government of Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram in 1942.
