Struck to mark the centenary of Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, this commemorative was issued during a period of extraordinary economic expansion — the mid-1990s Thai boom that would collapse spectacularly in the baht crisis of 1997. Within two years of this coin's release, the ministry it honored would be managing one of the worst currency devaluations in Southeast Asian history.
