Issued under the Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, which ran from the 1960s through the 1990s and recruited member nations to mint commemorative pieces promoting agricultural development and food security goals. Thailand participated multiple times across the series. This 1995 issue coincides with the FAO's 50th anniversary, which prompted a global wave of commemorative releases across dozens of member states that year — making Thai participation unremarkable in terms of rarity but historically anchored to a specific institutional milestone.
