Issued to mark the 2008 birthday cycle celebration of Princess Srinagarindra — Rama IX's mother, known as the Princess Mother — this coin commemorates the 108th anniversary of her birth, the ninth full 12-year cycle in the Thai reckoning. She had died in 1995, making this a posthumous tribute; the cycle count continued regardless. The Royal Thai Mint produced commemoratives of this type in relatively modest quantities compared to standard circulation issues, and most examples were sold directly through ceremonial channels rather than entering general commerce.
