| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central vignette of Salvador Correia de Sá e Benevides (1594–1662), the Portuguese admiral and colonial administrator who reconquered Angola and São Tomé from the Dutch in 1648, rendered as a formal portrait bust in intaglio. A jungle river scene forms part of the background design, framed by intricate guilloche borders and scrollwork typical of De La Rue engraving. Issuer name and denomination appear in lettered cartouches. |

The Banco de Angola was established in 1926, just a year before this note's issue, taking over from the Banco Nacional Ultramarino as the colonial territory's bank of circulation. This series was among the first produced under the new institution's name — De La Rue in London supplying the plates and sheets while the Portuguese colonial administration retained control of monetary policy from Lisbon.
Angola's economy at the time was heavily dependent on coffee and diamond exports, with currency demand volatile and actual circulation often uneven between the coast and the interior. Notes from this 1927 series that show genuine field wear are far less common than might be expected from the issue size.
