Agrippia was a short-lived Bithynian city refounded — and renamed — in honor of Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, Augustus's indispensable general and son-in-law, who administered the eastern provinces during his final tour of the region between 17 and 13 BC. The city's bronze coinage, struck in his lifetime, places this piece within a narrow window: Agrippa died in 12 BC, and civic issues flattering a living honorand were rarely continued long after his death.
