This piece belongs to the Chinese Lunar Gold series, which the People's Bank of China has issued annually since 1981 — one of the longest-running bullion programs of any sovereign mint. The 2017 Rooster issue marks the twelfth and final year of that particular twelve-year zodiac cycle before the series resets, making it the closing piece in a complete set that many institutional collectors target specifically for that reason.
