Yeongsan Juldarigi is a traditional tug-of-war festival originating in the Yeongsan region of South Chungcheong Province, practiced since at least the early Joseon period. The event divides entire villages into east and west factions, with ropes sometimes exceeding 200 meters in length and requiring hundreds of participants. It was designated UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015, though this coin predates that recognition by six years — part of a Bank of Korea series issued to document traditional folk games ahead of that international attention.
