| Obverse description | The obverse is engraved in a dark intaglio style on plain paper, with two elaborate allegorical vignettes in the upper corners — each containing putti and classical figures in animated compositions. A central oval cartouche with decorative guilloche surrounds what appears to be a faint oval vignette, flanked by the inscription LISBOA and the date 1798. The main text body, in letterpress, carries the obligation clause in Portuguese identifying the bearer note as payable by the Real Erário for 20,000 Réis, with two manuscript signatures below. |
