Guinea-Bissau issued a run of FAO-themed silver pieces in the mid-1990s while the country was still operating under the Banco Nacional da Guiné-Bissau, which ceased to exist shortly after when Guinea-Bissau joined the West African CFA franc zone in 1997 and monetary authority transferred to the BCEAO. The pineapple was a legitimate agricultural subject — the country had been developing export-oriented fruit cultivation with FAO support — but these coins were struck for the collector market, not circulation.
