| Description de l’avers | Frontal enthroned effigy of King Matthias Corvinus (Mátyás Király), depicted in armour with long flowing hair, holding a sceptre in his right hand and an orb surmounted by a cross in his left, beneath a royal crown at the top of the field. The lower portion of the design features an elaborately decorated Renaissance-style throne panel flanked by interlaced ornamental motifs, with two putti supporting the Hungarian coat of arms in the lower exergue. The legend MAGYARORSZÁG MÁTYÁS KIRÁLY arcs along the upper rim, with the denomination 20000 FORINT divided across the lower field. The engraver's initials SÉT appear in the lower centre of the field. |

Matthias Corvinus, who ruled Hungary from 1458 to 1490, built one of the largest standing armies in fifteenth-century Europe — the Black Army — funded largely through aggressive tax reform and control of royal mining revenues in the Carpathian basin. His court at Buda became a genuine center of Renaissance humanism, drawing scholars and artists from Italy at a time when much of Central Europe remained largely untouched by the movement. That reputation has made him the dominant figure in Hungarian historical memory, invoked repeatedly by successive governments seeking a usable past.
The Adamo EM371 designation places this within the Magyar Nemzeti Bank's long-running commemorative bullion program, which has returned to Corvinus as a subject multiple times across different denominations.
