The 20,000 Forint was introduced in 2004 as the highest denomination in Hungarian circulation — a response to cumulative inflation that had quietly eroded the practical ceiling of the 10,000 Forint note, itself only introduced in 1997. Magyar Pénzjegynyomda has printed Hungarian currency continuously since 1923, surviving nationalization, two currency reforms, and the transition from a command economy, which gives the Budapest plant an unusually unbroken institutional history for a state printer of its size.
Vagyóczky handled both the design and the primary engraving, an uncommon consolidation of roles on a high-denomination note.
