Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse is printed on polymer substrate in warm orange and brown tones, with a central intaglio portrait of writer and poet María Isabel Carvajal (Carmen Lyra) facing three-quarters left, her name lettered below. To the left, a vignette of the map of Costa Rica with a green color-shifting ink effect is set within the guilloche underprint. The transparent window at right carries the national coat of arms in a holographic OVD patch, with a secondary latent image portrait integrated into the clear area. Date, series, and agreement number appear at upper center, with facsimile signatures of the Presidente and Gerente below.

Opmerkingen

Costa Rica moved its highest circulating denomination to polymer with this issue, part of a broader modernization push that began with lower values in 2012. The Canadian Bank Note Company has handled Costa Rican polymer production through this transition, with Ottawa supplying sheets that would previously have come from traditional intaglio houses.

The W-prefix Pick designation flags the polymer substrate — a cataloging convention introduced to distinguish these from earlier paper issues of the same denomination. Worth noting for variety collectors tracking the full series.
