| Obverse description | Printed in dark green on a pale green underprint, the obverse is dominated by a large ornate Fraktur inscription reading 'Zwanzig Milliarden Mark' within an elaborate scrollwork cartouche at centre. The denomination '20 Milliarden M.' appears in a rounded rectangular panel at upper left, with a serif-lettered serial number at upper right. Two circular seals of the Mecklenburg-Schwerinsches Staatsministerium, each bearing a crowned eagle device, anchor the lower left and lower right corners, and five manuscript facsimile signatures of ministry officials appear across the lower portion above the place and date line 'Schwerin, den 23.
