Comments

Brunndöbra was a small textile-industry village in the Vogtland district of Saxony, and like hundreds of German municipalities in late 1923, it printed its own emergency currency when the Reichsbank could no longer supply denominations large enough to meet daily payroll demands. The 20 billion Mark figure is not an exaggeration or a collectible novelty — it reflects the hyperinflation peak reached in October and November 1923, when a single loaf of bread could cost tens of billions of marks and factory workers were paid twice daily to outrun price increases.

Gemeindekasse issues at this denomination level typically had lifespans measured in days before being rendered obsolete by yet another zero.
