The 1936 Gdynia commemorative series celebrated what was, at the time, one of the most remarkable infrastructure achievements in interwar Europe — a major deepwater port built from near-scratch on the Baltic coast after Poland regained sea access under the Treaty of Versailles. Gdynia went from a small fishing village to one of the busiest ports on the Baltic within roughly a decade.
This wide-diameter próba is the trial variant catalogued under KM#Pn69, distinguished from the standard circulation issue by its broader flan. Polish próba strikes of this period were produced in strictly limited numbers at Mennica Państwowa for approval purposes and rarely escaped official hands.
