The shield is elaborately mantled and set within a decorated cartouche. The encircling legend reads CLEMENS·XIII PONT·M·A·VIII·, identifying the pontiff as Clement XIII in the eighth year of his pontificate. The engraving, by Giuseppe Hamerani, is rendered in fine high-relief baroque style characteristic of mid-18th century Roman papal coinage. |

The surrounding legend SVPRA · FIRMAM · PETRAM references Matthew 16:18, affirming the Church built upon the rock of Peter. The composition is a masterwork of baroque religious allegory, executed with exceptional precision by the Hamerani workshop at the Rome Mint. |
