| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena facing right, wearing a elaborate full-bottomed wig with voluminous curls rendered in fine detail. The effigy is shown in high relief against a flat field, with visible plate armor at the shoulder. The circumferential Latin legend reads DEVILHENA F·D·AN:MANOEL, divided on either side of the portrait, and the coin is bordered by a fine beaded inner circle with a milled edge. |

The shield displays the arms of the Order and those of Vilhena in the usual quartered arrangement. Stars punctuate the circumferential Latin legend, which includes the date 1723, and the whole composition is enclosed within a beaded border with a milled edge. |
