| Reverse description | The centre of the note is occupied by an elaborate symmetrical vignette of traditional Vietnamese decorative motifs, including interlaced scrollwork and stylized floral and foliate elements rendered in fine letterpress. The denomination numeral '2' flanks the central design on each side within plain rectangular panels. A serial number is printed in red at the foot of the note below the central vignette. |

Vietnam's National Bank issued this tiny-format note as a fractional instrument during a period when the southern economy was under severe inflationary pressure and coinage was largely absent from everyday transactions. The xu denominations — 1, 2, and 5 — circulated as practical substitutes for metal that the government could not reliably produce in sufficient quantity.
P#75 is among the more elusive of the xu series in any grade, largely because notes this small were easily lost, discarded, or pulped after their brief useful life.
