Obverse description Central field features a detailed depiction of the Ryongwang Pavilion (Pyongyang), a multi-tiered traditional Korean palatial structure rendered in high relief, set upon a rocky embankment with stylized foliage at its base. The country name legend 조선민주주의인민공화국 (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) arcs along the upper periphery in Hangul script. The denomination 2원 (2 Won) appears in the lower field beneath the architectural motif.

Reverse description Central field features a full-color applied image of a German Shepherd dog in a recumbent pose, depicted in naturalistic brown and black tones. To the upper left, an incuse inscription in cursive Chinese characters appears in the field, accompanied by a square cartouche containing the cyclical heavenly stem character 戊 (Wù, the earthly branch associated with the Dog year). The date 2018 is inscribed along the lower periphery in Arabic numerals.
