Resplendor is a small municipality in the Doce River valley of Minas Gerais, and this note is a contemporary emergency scrip — a municipally-issued complementary currency rather than legal tender under Banco Central do Brasil jurisdiction. Brazilian municipal complementary currencies ("moedas sociais") have proliferated since the 1990s, typically backed by local government services or community agreements and redeemable in specific commercial circuits within the issuing municipality.
