| Obverse description | Central field displays an ornate cross pattée within a beaded inner circle, with a fleur-de-lis motif at the base of the cross. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer margin, partially legible on this worn specimen. The 'Açor' (goshawk) countermark of António I, applied in 1583, is struck upon the field to authenticate the coin's revalued denomination of 2 Tostões. The overall flan is irregular, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. |

| Reverse description | Central field bears the crowned royal arms of Portugal within a shield, displaying the traditional quinas (five escutcheons) arrangement, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A Latin legend surrounds the shield in the outer margin, partially legible due to wear and the irregular flan. An additional '120' countermark, applied during the reign of João IV in 1642 to revalue the coin, is visible on the field above the shield. The hammered fabric of the host coin is evident throughout, with characteristic surface irregularities consistent with mid-sixteenth-century Portuguese minting practice. |
