| 正面描述 | Bare-headed effigy of Francesco II (Francis II), King of the Two Sicilies, facing left, with naturalistically rendered hair. The portrait occupies the central field in high relief. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy reading FRANCISCVS II.D.G.REGNI VTR.SIC.ET HIER.REX, with a small six-pointed star serving as a stops mark at the base of the legend. |

Francesco II inherited the Neapolitan throne in May 1859, the same month Austria's defeats at Magenta and Solferino began unraveling the old Italian order. His reign lasted barely sixteen months before Garibaldi's Expedition of the Thousand forced his withdrawal to Gaeta. Copper issues from 1859 saw limited circulation time before the Bourbon monetary system was systematically replaced by unified Italian coinage after 1861.
