| Additional information |
Bảo Đại, the last emperor of the Nguyễn dynasty, ruled largely as a figurehead under French Indochina's colonial administration. These silver tiền pieces were traditional Vietnamese cash-style issues struck to maintain ceremonial monetary continuity rather than to serve any practical colonial exchange function — French piastres handled actual commerce. The Nguyễn court had been producing tiền in precious metals for ritual and gift-giving purposes since the early 19th century, a practice the French found useful to preserve as a symbol of nominal imperial authority.
The X# prefix in the Krause reference confirms non-circulating or ceremonial status.
