Encircling the central device are elaborate swirling clouds and flames of distinctly stylized form, with additional pearl or orb motifs flanking the center at left and right. A dragon or mythological creature appears at the top of the field amid the clouds. The two-character inscription 二儀 is positioned in the lower portion of the field. Additional information

Bảo Đại's reign was largely administrative fiction — France retained full monetary and fiscal control through the Banque de l'Indochine, and coins issued under his name circulated alongside French Indochinese piastres with no meaningful distinction in purchasing power. This piece belongs to a category of Vietnamese imperial coinage that was ceremonial in function far more than commercial, produced in limited quantities and rarely encountered in circulation wear as a result.
