背面描述 The reverse depicts a solemn ecclesiastical procession in which bishops carry a reliquary chest, commemorating the transfer of the relics of Saints Rupert and Virgilius on 24 September 1628. The scene is set within a beaded inner circle, with the figures rendered in the detailed baroque style typical of Salzburg commemorative issues of this period. A Latin legend encircles the composition, commencing at 12 o'clock, naming the two patron saints and recording the date of the translation of their relics. The subject matter directly relates to the consecration ceremonies of the new Salzburg Cathedral, making the obverse and reverse thematically unified. This depiction of relic translation is a rare and historically significant motif in early seventeenth-century Germanic coinage.

附加信息

Paris von Lodron consecrated the new Salzburg Cathedral on September 24, 1628 — a building nearly sixty years in construction following the destruction of the Romanesque original by fire in 1598. This double thaler was struck expressly to commemorate that event, one of the most significant ecclesiastical dedications in the German-speaking world of the seventeenth century. Lodron had personally overseen the cathedral's completion and kept Salzburg out of the Thirty Years' War through careful neutrality, making him an unusually stable issuing authority in an otherwise catastrophic decade for the region.

Zöttl's census lists this as a scarce commemorative, not a circulation piece.
