Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint Peter, patron saint of Trier, rendered in high relief in the late Gothic manner. The saint, nimbed with a halo, is vested in episcopal robes and holds a large key in his left hand while his right hand is raised in blessing. At his feet, partially obscured by the flowing vestments, is the quartered heraldic shield of the Archbishopric of Trier, displaying the red cross of Trier and the eagle of the Electorate. The circumferential Latin legend reads IOAN D G CONFIR TREVE PRIN ELEC, identifying Archbishop Johann VI von der Leyen by the grace of God, confirmed Prince-Elector of Trier.
