Reverse description Half-length figure of Landgrave Philipp of Hesse depicted in three-quarter view facing left, clad in full plate armour. In his right hand he holds a four-quartered heraldic coat of arms displaying the arms of Hesse. The date 1543 appears within the reverse legend, which is rendered in Latin and incorporates the Protestant motto VICTORIA NOSTRA A SOLO DEO EST. The composition reflects the alliance between the two Protestant princes and is executed in the monumental Renaissance style characteristic of large-denomination Thalers of the period.
