| Obverse description | Half-length facing effigy of Elector George William of Brandenburg, depicted in three-quarter view turned slightly to the right, attired in elaborate armour beneath a fur-trimmed electoral mantle and wearing a crowned electoral hat. He holds a sceptre in his right hand and rests his left hand on a small orb or pommel, conveying regal authority. The portrait is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of large early seventeenth-century German hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading: ·GEORG·WILH·D:G·MAR·BRAN·S·R·I·A·C·E·ELET·, abbreviating his full titles as Margrave of Brandenburg and Arch-Chamberlain of the Holy Roman Empire. |
