| Obverse description | The obverse is divided into four quadrants by a cross formed by two intersecting bands, each bearing a portion of the German legend. The upper-left quadrant depicts hunters and animals in a forest scene; the upper-right shows a sailing vessel on open water; the lower-left portrays a rural farming landscape with figures and livestock; and the lower-right features a figure drawing water at a well, with drinking vessels nearby. The two legend bands intersect at the center, reading DIE MENSCHEN IN DER WELDT TRACHTN ALSO NACH GELT, rendered in Gothic lettering. The composition is executed in a detailed pictorial style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German Ausbeute coinage, celebrating the productivity of the Brunswick mines. |
