Ferdinand II issued these large silver multiples during the immediate aftermath of the Battle of White Mountain, a period when the Habsburg reconquest of Bohemia demanded both military finance and a visible assertion of dynastic authority over a kingdom that had just elected a rival Protestant king. The Prague mint was working under considerable political pressure throughout this window, and the resulting coinage reflects an administration consolidating power rather than celebrating it.
The years 1623–1624 saw Ferdinand's controversial currency manipulation — the Kipper und Wipperzeit debasement — winding down, making these full-weight silver issues a deliberate contrast to the debased small coinage flooding Central Europe at the time.
