Obverse description Central shield of the Bremen civic arms, displaying two crossed silver keys on a red field, supported on either side by a rampant lion holding the escutcheon; the shield is surmounted by a royal crown. An ornate baroque cartouche with a shell motif decorates the base beneath the supporters. The circular Latin legend MONETA. NOVA. REIPUBL: BREMENSIS. MF runs around the periphery, with the mintmaster's initials MF positioned at the base of the legend.
