| Obverse description | Draped bust of Duke August the Younger facing right, wearing a laurel wreath, rendered in high relief in the baroque manner. Two winged angels flank the effigy: the left angel holds an olive branch and the right angel blows a trumpet and holds a palm frond, both posed as if crowning or acclaiming the ruler. A circular Latin legend runs along the inner border, reading MA CORONAT AUGUSTAM (or similar), all enclosed within a finely beaded outer rim. The composition is characteristic of the elaborate allegorical portraiture favored in seventeenth-century German princely coinage. |

| Reverse description | Central roundel containing the Brunswick duchy device — a rearing horse atop a crescent, crowned above and set upon an elaborate baroque cartouche — encircled by the German motto legend ALLES MIT BEDACHT (All with deliberation). Surrounding the central roundel is an array of twelve heraldic shields representing the various territorial arms of the House of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, arranged symmetrically around the field. The outer legend records the date and birth year of Duke August: A(NNO) 1666 AETA(TIS) 68 NAT(US) APR(ILI), with the mintmaster's initials H–S flanking the punched-in denomination numeral 2 at the base. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |
