附加信息

Anselm Casimir Wambold von Umstadt served as Archbishop-Elector of Mainz from 1629 until his death in 1647, presiding over the electorate through the worst years of the Thirty Years' War. Mainz itself was occupied by Swedish forces from 1631 to 1636, during which time the electoral mint essentially ceased functioning. This 1644 issue comes from the recovery period after Swedish withdrawal, when Wambold was attempting to reassert both political and economic authority over a territory that had been comprehensively looted.

The double thaler format at this weight was not routine production coinage — pieces of this scale were almost certainly struck for presentation or diplomatic purposes.
