Obverse description Central field bears a four-line raised inscription reading ERÖFFNUNG / DER / NEUEN MÜNZE / SEPT. 1840, commemorating the opening of the new Frankfurt mint in September 1840. The inscription is rendered in bold serif capital letters against a plain, slightly mottled silver field. Surrounding the central text, a circular legend reads ZUR V. SÄCULARFEIER DES MÜNZ-RECHTS DER STADT FRANKFURT, referencing the fifth centenary of Frankfurt's minting rights. The coin is bordered by a continuous inner ring of fine dentils adjacent to the raised rim.
