| 正面描述 | Central field displays the civic arms of Augsburg — a large pine cone (Pyr) — supported by two angels in full figure, one to each side. Below the pine cone, a panoramic view of the city of Augsburg is depicted, with the Roman numeral date MDCXXV presented within a decorative cartouche at the base. The overall composition is rendered in the elaborate Baroque manner characteristic of early seventeenth-century South German municipal coinage. |

Augsburg's 1625 double thaler lands squarely in the opening years of the Thirty Years' War, during which the city — nominally imperial but internally divided between its Lutheran majority and Catholic patriciate — was navigating an increasingly untenable political position. The city would fall under Bavarian Catholic occupation in 1632, ending decades of uneasy confessional coexistence. Issues from this precise window are among the last struck under conditions of genuine civic autonomy.
