Obverse description Quartered shield displaying the personal arms of Grand Master Juan de Homedes impaled with the eight-pointed cross of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, set within a circular legend. The shield is divided into four quarters, with the Homedes family arms alternating with the white cross of the Hospitallers on a plain field. The design is characteristic of the hammered coinage of the Maltese Hospitallers, with the heraldic devices rendered in a bold, medieval style. The surrounding legend identifies the Grand Master in abbreviated Latin.
