| Obverse description | Central crowned shield of Portugal flanked by the initials A and D, denoting the mint transfer from Goa (A) to Diu (D). The royal arms are rendered in a simplified hammered style characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage. The crown surmounting the shield is of the traditional Portuguese royal form.
