Obverse description Central crowned shield of Portugal flanked by the initials A and D, denoting the mint transfer from Goa (A) to Diu (D). The royal arms are rendered in a simplified hammered style characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage. The crown surmounting the shield is of the traditional Portuguese royal form. The field surrounding the shield is plain, with no additional legend. The overall design is crudely struck, as typical of hammered issues from the Estado da India mints.
