| 正面铭文 | TWO 2 TAKA |
| 背面描述 | The central design depicts a boy and a girl seated together, reading an open book whose visible pages display the first characters of the two Bangla alphabet sets and the numeral one in Bangla script, symbolising universal literacy. A circular legend in Bengali script surrounds the central motif, bearing the year of issue preceded by the abbreviation 'ইং' (denoting the Gregorian calendar), the country name 'বাংলাদেশ', and the educational motto 'সবার জন্য শিক্ষা' (Education for All). The denomination is expressed at the lower portion of the field in both numeral and written form in Bengali script. |

The United Nations Literacy Decade ran from 2003 to 2012, launched by General Assembly resolution 56/116 with UNESCO designated as lead agency. Bangladesh was a natural participant — adult literacy rates there hovered around 47% at the decade's outset, among the lowest in South Asia. The commemorative circulation issue spanned four years of production rather than a single strike, suggesting it was intended as much for everyday handling as for the program's visibility.
