Aanvullende informatie

This piece is not a product of the VOC's own mints but rather an officially sanctioned imitation of the Utrecht 2 stuivers coinage, produced to satisfy chronic small-denomination silver shortages in the archipelago. The VOC's monetary supply chain was perpetually inadequate for retail trade at the local level, and imitating established Dutch provincial types was a pragmatic workaround — familiar enough in appearance to circulate without friction among a population already accustomed to a chaotic mix of coin types.

Utrecht originals and their imitations circulated side by side, which is precisely why the distinction matters to collectors today.
