Obverse description Within a plain inner circle set on a diamond-shaped (klippe) flan, the abbreviated province name GELRIA is inscribed in two lines across the field, with the date 1646 below. At the top of the inner circle, flanked by two pellets, appears a fleur-de-lis privy mark serving as the mint mark of Harderwijk. The bold, deeply struck lettering is characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Dutch hammered coinage, and the angular corners of the klippe flan extend well beyond the circular border.
