Reverse description A four-digit date, corresponding to the year of issue, is struck within a pearled rectangular border on the irregularly shaped copper flan. The numerals are boldly rendered in the same crude hammered style as the obverse, consistent with the low-denomination colonial coinage of the Batavian Republic period in Java. The field surrounding the date shows characteristic surface irregularities and flow lines resulting from the hammering technique. Additional ornamental pellets or incidental marks may appear in the field.
